West Hoathly Village School

Village School History - 2nd edition
by Basil Cridland
So many in our village and beyond enjoyed Basil Cridland's first book - West Hoathly School - the Story so Far, published in 2001, that it sold out after two years. Later, Basil promised to update and extend the history, and in November 2006, the second edition was published. Additional photographs have been included (there are now 90 in the book, with an index to them), there is the outcome of some new research into the work and family of Thomas Worster, schoolmaster from 1867, and also more about children's experiences in World War II. The final chapter (chapter 8) now covers the years 1997 to 2006 and includes an account of the recent substantial extension to the school buildings. The book has 120 pages and includes three maps.
The price of the book is £6.99. "Which includes an 8-page supplement bringing the story up to very recent times". Copies may be obtained at the school in term-time, preferably in the mornings (telephone 01342 810302), or from the Priest House Museum in West Hoathly". If you want a copy by post, please send a cheque for £8.50 (to include postage and packing), made payable to West Hoathly School Fund, to the Secretary, West Hoathly School, North Lane, West Hoathly, East Grinstead, West Sussex, RH19 4QG.
